Description dbrody 2003-02-06 06:07:42 UTC
Description of Problem:
This is a very annoying 'feature' in metacity that when doing "Show
Desktop", and you unminimize a window all the windows unminimize. Now
before you say anything, i read the Changlog and how it was done to "not
confuse the user", but it is a very annoying. The reason is, that
someitmes when using multi-windowed applications, like GIMP, Glade, Dia,
and many more, it comes in very handy to be able to minimize all of the
windows and then only bring up one or two, and not all 20 of them.
Especially if it is to drag somthing from the desktop and a nautilus
window.

Another case this can become annoying is when working with the desktop
(moving files, unmounting cds etc..), and a dialog box, or somthing of
the sort (like a download that just started, or a copy dialog, or an
error message) and all of the other windows pop up.

I do not see how the user can get 'confused' by this, it is a very
common feature in other DE even Windows.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Set up the keyboard shortcut for "Show Desktop"
2. Open a number of unmaximized windows
3. Click the keyboard shortcut for "Show Desktop"
4. Click on a window from the tasklist

Actual Results:
All of the windiws unminimize

Expected Results:
Only the 'clicked' window should unminimize

How often does this happen?
Always.

This bug is a dup, there's another one in here somewhere with some
discussion of the issue.
