GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 103941
Please add Barrel/Pin Cushion distortion correction tool
Last modified: 2007-04-18 18:27:07 UTC
Please add Barrel/Pin Cushion Distortion tool to GIMP 2. Thanks.
A patch would very much increase the likelihood that this will happen before 1.4.

There is a tool: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~hodsond/wideangle.html Also, Helmut Dersch's famous PanoTools website is down, but he has code for doing the same(?) thing.
the pano tools are available here: http://home.no.net/dmaurer/~dersch/Index.htm also, there is a file needed for unices to compile it: http://www.4pi.org/downloads/sys_ansi.h Another old competitor is phfluuh (gimp 1.2?) http://www.acc.umu.se/~janlert/phfluuh/ it contains two plugins to make panoramas: one is supposed to correct the distortion due to lenses (enfish?).
Helmut Dersch doesn't seem to provide any useful source code, just a binary library. There is no way we could add such a plug-in or depend on the binary-only library.
Ignore my last rent, there actually is source: http://www.path.unimelb.edu.au/~dersch/
Barrel/pincushion distortion is already available: Filters > Distort > Lens Distortion. So this enhancement request should probably be closed. However, everything from comment #4 deals with Panorama Tools. Maybe another enhancement request should be opened for this one?
