Description Chris Lyttle 2002-12-27 00:16:19 UTC
Package: GnuCash
Severity: normal
Version: 1.7.6
Synopsis: New account setup allows wrong types to use commodity
Bugzilla-Product: GnuCash
Bugzilla-Component: User Interface General

Description:
The account information dialog has removed the Security field from the Account Information section and replaced it with Commodity. I dont know if this was possible in 1.6, but it was made a little clearer that you had to choose a security separately from choosing a currency and that in order to choose a security, your Account Type had to be either currency, stock or mutual fund.
As it is now, you can end up with a security from a type (for eg Bank) that shouldn't allow this. We need some more separation in the commodity choosing dialog (perhaps grey out the New... button and stock dropdown unless one of the above 3 types is chosen). To recreate;
1)Start a new account (default is Bank type)
2)Click on Select...
3)Choose a Security that isn't a currency

You should now have an account of type Bank with a commodity.

With the new multiple-currency handling, it doesn't matter. Having a
'stock account' is just a convenience to the user.

Fixed in CVS. Fix will also appear in 1.8.5.
