GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 98176
Control-A selects all in emacs mode, instead of moving the cursor
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Hi, http://bugs.debian.org/168548 Despite opting for Emacs style shortcuts for text editing from the Keyboard Shortcuts applet, all GNOME 2 applications (e.g. galeon-snapshot & nautilus2) continue to only recognise the GNOME Default (i.e. Win32) style shortcuts.
Hi Christian, What are the emacs shortcuts so I can test?
See /usr/share/themes/Emacs/gtk-2.0-key/gtkrc
Well, it works for me in HEAD (although some emacs bindings are caught by the app as shortcuts, so it's probably not a very intelligent mode to use anyway).
Hi everyone, I'm the the guy who filed the original report under the Debian BTS, so here's an example that fails for me. Try Ctrl-A in the Nautilus2 Location field. It selects all instead of going to start of line ala Emacs mode. I just noticed that Ctrl-E (end of line works now). Perhaps this bug should be retitled as "Emacs shortcut key mode is inconsistent." Thanks, Andrew "Netsnipe" Lau
Retitling since I can't find any other instances

I can confirm this with current 2.2.x from CVS.
Let me also point out that Ctrl-Space selection marking Emacs style (akin to holding down the Shift key in the default scheme) also fails. But I guess implementing this is going to be A LOT harder.
This is gtk bug 95494 I think
as said in the previous comment that's a dup of #95494 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 95494 ***
