Additional Information:
This is a brand new RedHat 8.0 install on an Athlon 800MHz,
1280x1024x24.  I had recently changed the screen resolution and relogged
in.  Interestingly the RedHat up2date icon which normally resides near
the right of hte panel next to the date was only about 2 pixels wide.
