Good one, thanks
Comment 2 Yanko Kaneti 2002-09-01 12:19:05 UTC
I think this is a bug in the HIG.

As a user I am confused by the current reccomnedation as implemented
in gedit for instance.

Comment 3 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-09-01 15:19:08 UTC
Then post a bug to the hig. When it will be fixed we will change it
back.
Comment 4 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-09-01 15:42:06 UTC
no there is no bug in the hig. elipses are only needed when an action
requires user input one example is rename in nautilus. The user
doesn't have to provide any input when using these dialogs (they could
be just viewing the content, i know its a subtle difference).

i went through nautilus with calum awhile ago so i am fairly certain
it is correct, while i am unsure of how thorough a ui review gedit has
had.
Comment 5 Yanko Kaneti 2002-09-01 15:56:57 UTC
I know what the hig currently says and I think I am familiar with (the
little) rationale behind it. And I already posted to usability@gnome.org.

Thanks anyway.

One thing thats certain is that the "Find" menuitem should be
ellipsized no matter whats the resolution of that HIG bug i posted.
Comment 7 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-09-13 07:28:05 UTC
I removed ellipses from that too ? eeek ;)
Comment 8 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-09-13 18:56:37 UTC
Hmmm my Find item is actually ellipsized.
Can you try to remove _label="Find" from the Find <cmd... in
galeon-ui.xml.in and see if that fix the problem ?
I dont get why this would not work for you though ...
Comment 9 Yanko Kaneti 2002-09-15 14:25:59 UTC
Duh, I am wrong about the Find...sorry. Since I didnt have galeon2
running I only examined the ui xml file and got confused bye the verb
lable name

Comment 10 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-09-16 11:16:23 UTC
Heh closing it again ... hope it's ok
Comment 11 Yanko Kaneti 2002-09-16 11:41:17 UTC
I dont think its ok.
The bug is dependant on that other HIG bug. (which has got zero
attention so far)

Comment 12 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-09-16 19:25:38 UTC
As you like
