Description Adonay Felipe Nogueira 2018-01-07 04:03:53 UTC
This is a suggestion to change "Processar Pagamento" to "Processar Faturas" in "po/pt_BR.po".

* Steps to reproduce:

1. Make sure the original corresponding .po file is correctly installed.

2. Do:

LANG=pt_BR gnucash

3. Go to: Top menu, Negócios, Cliente, Processar Pagamento

It was suggested by Eduardo Estefano Neto that the parts where it says "Processar Pagamento" they could actually be "Processar Faturas".

At first thank you for your work!
But a few questions arise:

Is this the result from the thread starting with https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-br/2017-November/000728.html ? Can you explain the reasons here short in english? IMHO "Processar Faturas" is less precise. It could mean create, print, pay or do something else with Faturas.

Did you contact Miguel Rozsas <miguel@rozsas.eng.br>?

About the last 2 changes: you should also translate "on posting" and finally remove the '#, fuzzy' line.

You can find more tips and rules in https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Translation

After reading the suggestion made by Frank H. Ellenberger, I tried to contact the last translator. Now I'm waiting for the reply.

Good morning!

OK ! It's really a more precise translation in this context. I agree with the improvement/patch.

Thanks!

End of message.

Review of attachment 366651 [details] [review]:

While I appreciate your initiative I don't agree it's a more precise translation.

The "Process payment" menu item appears 3 times
- once for customers and their invoices
- once for vendors and their bills
- once for employees and their vouchers

You could argue Faturas to work for invoices and bills but I doubt it's a proper translation for a voucher.

Secondly it's not a more accurate description of what the menu option does: the menu option does handle payments, not invoices. These payments are primarily to a business partner (customer/vendor/employee). Whether an invoice is involved is optional. Some payments do, some don't. You can enter a customer payment via this menu option that doesn't involve an invoice at all! The payment window allows you to process prepayments, refunds, invoices and credit notes. Suggesting in the menu name it is only use to process an invoice would hide the wider possibilities.

Lastly, let's imagine the string you chose in Portuguese would be a better description of what the menu option really does. Then you deliberately choose to wrongly translate the original English string. "Process Payment" means "Processar Pagamento", not "Processar Faturas". So it would be more useful to first discuss the incorrect English string and when we can come up with a better one, translate that one.

I'm certainly open to suggestions for a better English string by the way. I just don't think "Process Invoices" is more accurate. Do you have another proposal ?

I have studied what you said and I agree with you. I have sent a summary of what you said to Eduardo, Miguel and gnucash-br ([1]). I asked them to contribute with their opinions.

In the same message I sent to them, I also told them about the multi-purpose function of "Process Payment" and also asked for suggestions for phrases that would better describe the item.
