GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 781379
GIMP should making variable fonts works
Last modified: 2017-04-20 16:31:26 UTC
Since September 2016, OpenType specification released with new font variation introduced. But GIMP does not any changes mentioned for that, so I suggest GIMP should give support for such technology when insert a text into image, at least support font weight (also allow numbered font weight), font style (italic/oblique, width (such as condensed), etc.) to make variable fonts works as expected when necessary.
Size based variation should also get support as above.
The following resources can be used for test when you need: https://github.com/Monotype/Monotype_prototype_variable_fonts/ https://github.com/TypeNetwork/fb-Decovar https://github.com/TypeNetwork/fb-Amstelvar https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-fonts/tree/master/alpha/from-pipeline/unhinted/variable-ttf
We indeed don't have any OpenType support. We happily welcome patches! :-)
Ok so looks as a duplicate of bug 748275. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 748275 ***
