As discussed on https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745749 the specification needs to be moved to a common ground. 

I'm making a new bug as that one is closed, so it might get forgotten.

Tying a specification to /an/ implemenation makes it all too easy for devs to accidentally make an API breaking change between versions; which is what we say is in this bug when the image-path hint became image_path.

I can help if needed.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all
older bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen
updates for a while.
