GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 726013
nm-applet shows no networks available / state disconnected - no way to recover from gui
Last modified: 2020-11-12 14:27:53 UTC
I am running 0.9.8.4-1 on Debian jessie, using Broadcom b43 wifi. It appears to be possible for nm-applet to get into a state where it shows wifi networks only as being "disconnected" (none available) and there is no way (from the gui) to list networks or reconnect to a network. This seems to be rare but is an annoying ui failure. I have had it happen twice, logs/notes follow. --- After a while the network stops working. The network manager applet shows a little cross icon, hovering over it shows "No network connection". Clicking, under "Wi-Fi Networks" it just says "disconnected" No networks are listed as available. There does not appear to be any way to re-connect to a wifi network using the applet. I think I have seen this state a couple of times as well recently. I'm now using nm-applet from git and will see whether it can still happen.
Bug 778833 possibly
bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance. We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time. If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/ Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
