Description Jason Stewart 2013-12-30 21:52:06 UTC
In gnome 3.x [System Settings -> Mouse and Touchpad], there is no way to set the mouse cursor size or add a downloaded cursor theme.

This is a pretty big accessibility issue for people with diminished vision. It is also a problem for people who have high-resolution setups that dwarf the default mouse cursor size.

Mouse cursor resizing can be accomplished via command line using either the `update-alternatives` utility, or by directly modifying X11 config files, but neither of those options are particularly user-friendly.

If someone could point me to the files that handle this, I would be glad to make the addition myself if the maintainers are amenable to accepting it.

Thanks for your bug report.

Looks like there is no option to do that in the Control Center. However cursor theme could be changed by Gnome Tweak Tool, but only way to change cursor size is probably:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 24

I think better place for those settings should be in Universal Access panel.

Universal Access > Pointing and Clicking is a good enough place for it.

Is gdm still the default greeter, or are you guys using lightdm now? Also need a way to propagate the setting to the greeter... possibly have to push the setting to X11???

Do I have the go-ahead to work on this?

Thx.
