Geary currently only supports IMAP's PLAIN login scheme (and, worse, assumes
that all servers support it). We should expand the IMAP layer to support other
common authentication schemes, such as CRAM-MD5 and SASL. See
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3501#section-6.2.2

Like bug #713859, this ticket is too broad.  IMAP authentication schemes should be ticketed separately.
