Bug 698362 - Nautilus left in odd state after deleting parent folder via path bar
Nautilus left in odd state after deleting parent folder via path bar

Description Adam Dingle 2013-04-19 13:30:21 UTC
To see the problem:

1. Visit a folder ~/foo/bar/baz.
2. Right click on the parent folder "bar" in the path bar and choose Move to Trash.

Nautilus will now be in an odd state: the path bar displays nothing at all. Instead, Nautilus should jump up to the parent folder ~foo in this situation (just as it currently jumps to the parent folder when you delete the folder you're currently viewing).

In addition, when using Alt+Up, an error dialog pops up:

>
> Unable to find the requested file. Please check the spelling and try again.
>
> Unhandled error message: Error when getting information for file '/home/[username]/foo/bar': No such file or directory

If I use F5 (or View Options -> Refresh) instead of Alt+Up, I get the error dialog too, but nautilus automatically jumps to ~/foo.

The "empty Path Bar" symptom can also be seen in bug 697873. The underlying bug may be the same.

-----

Side note: does it really make sense to have a "Move to Trash" option in the Path Bar context menu?
Comment 2 Adam Dingle 2013-04-19 15:16:29 UTC
I often use Move to Trash from the path bar. It's certainly the most convenient way in Nautilus to delete the folder I'm currently viewing.
Comment 3 António Fernandes 2018-01-14 22:52:57 UTC
No longer reproducible.
