Description bjv 2012-08-21 02:34:18 UTC
Expected behaviour: able to click on files in nautilus 'Icons' and 'Compact' views

Actual behaviour: the file area in nautilus stops responding to left clicks to focus/select items as soon as I tap on my touchscreen.
After tapping, I am also unable to select items with a usb mouse. Very reproducible, logging out/in to a new lightdm session starts with a working Nautilus that ceases to select any files after a tap occurs. Maximizing window and tapping on file area, tapping on desktop, etc. all cause the problem.

The 'List' view continues to work, other gtk programs continue to work, and after the issue occurs a left-click drag _can select items in 'icons'/'compact' views even when simply clicking does not.

(originally this was filed with the distro, but I've opened the bug here at their request) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1038812

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Without a stack trace from the crash it's very hard to determine what caused it.
Can you get us a stack trace? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!

Hi, got same bug and filled in on a distro launchpad, but decided to go here.

You see, nautilus isn't crashing, therefore there are no traces to collect, it just isn't working as expected.

You still can select bookmarks at the left panel, change menus etc. But file panel, where every file is displayed just doesn't receive any clicks at all. At the other hand in other programs(such as the THunar that I've installed as a replace) everything is working fine(more or less). I got a hunch that this is somehow related to this new touch-friendly scrollbar that can be scrolled by dragging work area.

This sounds a bit like bug 688281. Can you check if this is fixed for you with Nautilus 3.8?

with Nautilus 3.6.3-0ubuntu16, possibly sooner, the issue with Icon view has been addressed for me. (may have been related to the patch tried in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688281#c5 )

thanks
