GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 682229
Super+M should close the tray as well as open it
Last modified: 2012-11-17 01:12:55 UTC
The Super+M keybinding opens the message tray. It should close it too.
Known issue, hard to fix. We block handling of all keybindings when we take a modal grab. Giovanni has a set of fixes we can piggyback off of in bug #613543

I second this. I miss IM messages so often (thanks bug #641723 ) that I often quickly open/close the message tray just to check if there are no unread messages pending there. Typing Super+M twice would allow me to quickly check this.
It's annoying and hard, but it can be done. Florian said he had a set of WIP patches. Florian, would you mind giving an update status for that?
I've switched to a release-candidates branch a while before 3.6, updating the branch to recent changes (session-mode etc) and cleaning it up for bugzilla will be at the top of my list once we branch for 3.7.

Jasper> When I open the tray with Super+M, it is possible to close with with Esc key. So there are some keybindings active during the tray is shown
I'm not sure what you're trying to prove, Izidor. If you don't think it's that hard, try it yourself.
(In reply to comment #9) > I'm not sure what you're trying to prove, Izidor. If you don't think it's that > hard, try it yourself. Jasper, I don't think Izidor was trying to "prove" anything. I'm sure he was just trying to be helpful. :)
Jasper, I am sorry that my comment sounded harsh to you. I just wanted to point out, that you can close the tray using Esc key, not only by clicking at a icon. It was a reaction to comment #2.
Fixed as part of bug 688202. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 688202 ***
