Description Gert Kulyk 2012-07-20 13:27:54 UTC
Since I've been switching to gnome shell 3.5.x (currently I'm using 3.5.4), automount notification for audio cd's is broken (I'm using gvfs 1.13.3 and udisks2 1.98.0). Other media types are working fine, when in fallback-mode the automount-notification is shown, too. gvfs-mount and nautilus are recognizing the media.

Unfortunately now there is nothing related in the logs. Earlier releases of gnome-shell 3.5.x line had this:

JS LOG: Unable to mount volume Audio-CD: Gio.IOErrorEnum: DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered

Any hints?
Comment 1 Luis Henrique Mello 2012-12-10 18:49:14 UTC
This extends to any kind of media that doesn't have a filesystem, like blank CD's and DVD's.

I have installed:

udisks2 2.0.0
systemd 196
gvfs 1.14.2
gnome-shell 3.6.2

No error messages are parsed through journald, though...

Audio-CD recognition

See that gvfs recognizes the medium type, as shown in Disks, but no action chosen from System Settings -> Details -> Removable Media regarding Audio CD's and blank optical media is taken when the disk is inserted into the tray.
Comment 3 Gert Kulyk 2013-04-07 08:12:20 UTC
This is still an issue with gnome-shell 3.8:

gnome-shell 3.8.0.1
udisks2 2.1.0
gvfs 1.16.0
systemd 200

E.g. nautilus is recognizing audio-cd's and blank cd's properly, but no action is taken from shell automounter/autorun manager. What kind of information do you need to track the issue down (especially as I cannot find any useful logging information what might go wrong)?

Still the same issue with 3.8.
Comment 6 Luis Henrique Mello 2013-08-08 20:55:40 UTC
Solved with Audio CD's with:

gnome-shell 3.8.4
udisks2 2.1.0
systemd 204
gvfs 1.16.3

With blank media no notification appear.
Comment 7 Allan Day 2013-08-30 11:11:35 UTC
It works here with GNOME 3.8 / Fedora 19. Which distro are you on?
Comment 8 Luis Henrique Mello 2013-08-30 15:02:18 UTC
I'm on Arch Linux. As commented above, after upgrading to gnome-shell 3.8.4 the audio CD's do get notified when inserted on the tray, but not blank CD's and DVD's.
Comment 9 Allan Day 2013-08-30 15:27:39 UTC
Sorry I missed that. Blank CDs and DVDs work fine in Fedora.
Comment 10 Luis Henrique Mello 2013-08-30 18:16:25 UTC
I reported this also on the Arch bugtracker - https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/32929. The package maintainer said to report this upstream.

What related package versions are installed on Fedora 19? Does the notification system depend only on the gnome-shell?
Comment 11 Luis Henrique Mello 2013-08-30 20:47:38 UTC
Alas, which compilation flags are used on the Fedora rpm? That might solve the problem on Arch.

Comment 13 Luis Henrique Mello 2014-04-16 18:23:01 UTC
As with gnome-shell 3.12.0, the *first* time you insert a blank CD/DVD the notification shows up. After that, no automatic notification shows up and the blank CD/DVD appears in the notification area under 'Removable Devices' and twice as in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=724914
Comment 14 Luis Henrique Mello 2014-04-26 07:46:13 UTC
I think we should close this and file a new bug because audio CD's do get notifications when you insert it... only blank optical media don't...
Comment 15 Florian Müllner 2014-04-26 07:55:51 UTC
OK

I think that it would be better to mark this as a duplicate of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=724914
