GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 678520
Descriptions for functions DURATION, MDURATION, FORECAST and LOGREG
Last modified: 2012-06-21 07:07:04 UTC
The descriptions for the functions DURATION, MDURATION, FORECAST and LOGREG are partly incorrect. DURATION now: "DURATION: the duration of a security" could be: "DURATION: the (Macaulay) duration of a security" MDURATION now: "MDURATION: the Macaulay duration of a security" This is clearly wrong, this is the modified (Macaulay) duration, which is duration divided by 1+r; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bond_duration could be: "MDURATION: the modified (Macaulay) duration of a security" Andreas writes in an email: "Comparing our description with that of ODF 1.2 I suspect that we should simply change 'Macauley duration' to 'modified Macauley duration'." John C. Hull in his standard text book simply speaks of duration and modified duration, droppping "Macaulay" and making it clear and simple. FORECAST (German) now: "FORECAST: Schätzt einen Zukunftswert anhand der vorhandenen Werte mittels linearer Abschreibung" Clearly wrong. While regression means Abschreibung from an economics standpoint, regression is Regression in mathematics. should be: "FORECAST: Schätzt einen Zukunftswert anhand der vorhandenen Werte mittels linearer Regression" There's a second "Abschreibung" in the description which should be corrected. LOGREG (German) now: "LOGREG: die logarithmische Abschreibung" Same thing, clearly wrong. should be: "LOGREG: die logarithmische Regression" Any more details needed? Regards Soeren
The FORECAST and LOGREG issues appear to be translation issues and have been refiled as bug #678521.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
