Description Bastien Nocera 2012-04-28 18:11:50 UTC
gnome-contacts-3.4.0-2.fc17.x86_64

I got it offered for a contact ("Is this the same one as this contact from Facebook"), but no way to force it onto a particular set of contacts.

I would have expected this to be possible via either:
- contextual menu on the contact (either in the list view, or the details view)
- drag'n'drop

Hey Bastien, what's "a particular set of contacts"? Do you mean the specific contact you are linking the contact to? Or do you mean the contact store (Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc)?

Specific contacts I'd like to merge by hand. Selected ones for example.

I don't think merging all the contact store into one contact is really useful :)

You can manually link by right-clicking on a contact's name, then choosing "Add/Remove Linked Contacts" (which is totally undiscoverable).

There used to be a button to link contacts, but this switch happened about Gnome 3.4, I think. And I think we should revert to that behavior or at least make contact linking discoverable some other way (not just rely on these suggested links).

See bug 687856 comment 1.

Is that new in 3.6? Because from comment 0, it's pretty clear to me that there wasn't right-click menu, or a button.

I think it was new in 3.2 or 3.4. I haven't tried it in 3.6 yet, so maybe it's been changed again?

I thought you meant a context menu on the contact in the left pane, not its name in the right pane. I wouldn't have expected it there (and only found out about it because someone told me).

3.8 has a selection mode that allows linking. It's fairly prominent and allows linking multiple contacts in a straightforward manner.
