Tomboy cannot be run with a different flag from command line

If Tomboy is not already open, I can start it with a flag from command line. But, if it is running, I can't start it again with a different flag. This is what I get if I try to do that: $ tomboy --new-note [INFO 21:45:32.617] Initializing Mono.Addins [ERROR 21:45:33.099] Tomboy is already running. Exiting...
Someone else reported a similar issue. I believe it only exists on Linux, while Windows behaves properly. I can't find the other bug, but it's around.
I have also encountered this problem, as I was trying to use it for creating Ubuntu Unity quicklist items. tomboy --open-note [title/url] The application Zim Desktop Wiki is able to achieve this. Link to the bug on Launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomboy/+bug/1012970
