Description Alexander van Loon 2012-02-25 10:21:02 UTC
Currently if you use the window switcher in GNOME 3.2 and you have a lot of windows open, six for example, it can be difficult to tell which window is what. Because the window thumbnails are to small it's too difficult to recognize the windows. Because of that you start reading the window titles to tell which window is what.

However, a visual hint would make it easier to recognize. Visual recognition is faster than reading window titles. The suggestion I propose for this is to place the application icon of the window above that window's thumbnail, in the bottom right corner. Very similar to how it's done in the Alt-Tab switcher of Windows 7.

Two attachements are included, the first to demonstrate the current GNOME Shell window switcher and the second to demonstrate the Windows 7 Alt-Tab switcher.

Apparently there already is an extension for this: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/60/overlay-icons/

But I think I would be even better to make such a feature part of GNOME Shell by default.
