GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 670495
gedit lacks of on-the-fly graphical encoding chooser
Last modified: 2012-04-26 03:36:06 UTC
Currently, we can choose encoding by --encoding or file open dialog. They are all one-shot solutions. They may be a bit unfriendly to some users. On the other hand, on-the-fly graphical encoding chooser can be found in kate and any modern web browsers. http://kate-editor.org/ Encoding is indeed a problem because many text files are in neither utf8 nor iso-8859-15.
