Nautilus with dimmed file extensions

I would like an option to dim the file extension in Nautilus.
Many web browsers have now began dimming less relevant parts of the URL, such as the protocol, subdomain, path, and query string.
I propose we have an option/setting/feature that does the same Nautilus. Dim the the file extension.

This is a nice idea for some people, but not for everyone. If this is implemented, please make it optional.
Comment 2 Moo 2011-10-30 16:24:22 UTC
When I proposed this idea, I proposed it as an option.
If implemented, I wish it to be optional.

Same ticket for gtk+ in bug 662944.
Comment 4 André Klapper 2021-06-18 15:52:13 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
