GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 658094
Show an info bar with details on currently accessed user (for shares)
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:15:59 UTC
Nothing original, just something yet available on Mac OS Finder (at lease the one in 10.5). When you browse a network share (smb) Finder shows an infobar with "Connected as: Guest|$USERNAME" label on left side and "Connect As...|Disconnect" button on right side. By default Finder starts to browse the share as Guest. In my own experience, this is good to switch between guest/user while browsing a SMB share and you need to access to a private volume. Screenshot attached to explain how Finder works
Created attachment 195529 [details] Finder start to browse a smb share Initially connected as guest.
Created attachment 195530 [details] Access denied to private share Guest can't access to luca share
Created attachment 195531 [details] Connect dialog Clicking on Connect As button, the connect dialog is showed, allowing you to specify username and password. I fail to understand the reason of Guest/Registered User radios...
Created attachment 195532 [details] Browsing as user... Now you are browsing the share as the user specified in info bar label. Simply click on disconnect button to go back to guest (no confirmation prompted).
Sounds like a good idea. I've added this to the roadmap for next cycle.

The last dup indicates we should also offer to "Reconnect" a remote share when it is disconnected without user action.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
