Putting the Lock and Master (airplane mode, bluetooth power, etc.) switches in the toolbar has several benefits:

- It makes more sense hierarchy wise. Things at the top affect things at the bottom.
- It saves space. currently a lot of vertical space is used for a switch that is very small (see the Networks panel and any panel that has a lock).

I believe we already reached consensus on this on IRC, so this is mainly to track the progress.

The lock button has already been done (bug 650292).

We had to add some custom code in the control center for the lock button, is this how we also want to do the other hardware switches? It seems like we want a more high-power interface to add arbitrary stuff to the header in the future.

We've already got the lock in the top toolbar. The "Master switch" would only affect a couple of panels (on top of my head, Network, Bluetooth and Sound), and I don't think it's necessary to break out the context of the buttons (for which we would need to move the labels too) from their environment.

I'll close this as done then. Reopen if you feel strongly about the Master switch part of it.

I feel very strongly about the Master Switches. :)

They do affect only a few panels, but we don't have many panels altogether, and it would be a huge improvement usability wise to have this for the stated reasons.

So it's not about putting Master switches in the toolbar, it's about putting the "Airplane mode" switch in the toolbar when the Bluetooth or Network panel is opened.

I agree that we'd need to figure out the visuals for switches in toolbars. That said, I think this layout makes sense.
