GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 654894
"Window Overlay Icons" extension in core Gnome 3
Last modified: 2011-11-06 01:24:20 UTC
This is a feature request. I find this extension very useful and I think it should be in the default Gnome 3 set: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/07/2-more-gnome-shell-extensions-cpu.html https://github.com/sustmi/gnome-shell-extensions-sustmi The overlay icons are already standard in other OSs like MS Windows, Android or Mac

The shell used to show icons in the overview. The designers decided to remove them at some point, so I doubt they want to bring them back now.
Sounds to me like something for gnome-shell-extensions.
May I know why they decided to remove them? With icons you can find the window you're looking for faster. Maybe I missed the point?
