Description Tobias Mueller 2011-07-04 12:58:14 UTC
I just did a fresh jhbuild and it failed on colord with the following problem:

I would have expected it to configure and build just fine.
Comment 1 Richard Hughes 2011-07-04 13:42:35 UTC
You've not got pkg-config installed. Did you actually run "jhbuild build gnome-color-manager" or just "jhbuild buildone gnome-color-manager" ?
Comment 2 Tobias Mueller 2011-07-04 13:47:32 UTC
I do have pkg-config installed.

[jhbuild] muelli@bigbox ~/svn/gnome2/colord [±:master?] $ type -a pkg-config
pkg-config is /usr/bin/pkg-config
[jhbuild] muelli@bigbox ~/svn/gnome2/colord [±:master?] $ pkg-config --version
0.25
[jhbuild] muelli@bigbox ~/svn/gnome2/colord [±:master?] $

And I did a jhbuild build evolution (or so), not a buildone. And prior to that, I did a bootstrap.
Comment 3 Tobias Mueller 2011-07-04 16:24:35 UTC
needless to say that packages before colord built just fine.

The situation seems to be that aclocal doesn't find the pkg.m4 which, on my system, is at /usr/share/aclocal/. stracing autogen.sh doesn't show this directory to be searched.

I don't know whose bug it i, but I consider it a bug, because I took my F14 system and just did a jhbuild bootstrap && jhbuild build and I would have it expected to just work^tm. So it could be jhbuilds fault not setting up the environment correctly. It could be colord's fault, since it's the first pacakge to fail. It could be aclocal's fault by not respecting my system's aclocal directory.

The workaround for now is to put /usr/share/aclocal in /opt/gnome2/share/aclocal/dirlist

I have seen essentially the same problem building a different module
on FC14, with same versions of pkg-config as above.

I confirm that adding /usr/share/aclocal in /opt/gnome/share/aclocal/dirlist works around the problem
Comment 5 Richard Hughes 2012-03-23 09:17:36 UTC
Yup, I can't reproduce. Adding /usr/share/aclocal in /opt/gnome/share/aclocal/dirlist seems like a good workaround.
Comment 6 Tobias Mueller 2012-04-02 07:59:16 UTC
Let me reopen and reassign to jhbuild. They might decide to not consider this as their bug, but I do think that it is someones bug ;-)
Comment 7 Craig Keogh 2012-04-02 11:36:49 UTC

Honor aclocal flags

This is because JHBuild sets ACLOCAL_FLAGS to include the sandbox (e.g. -I
/opt/gnome/share/aclocal). One may argue it is silly for JHBuild to require
every module to support ACLOCAL_FLAGS, but there isn't a way around it until
automake-1.12 is out - which includes support for ACLOCAL_PATH. Further details
in the JHBuild bug 634617.

116 GNOME modules have Makefile.am as per patch.

Looks good, thanks!
Comment 9 Allison Karlitskaya (desrt) 2014-03-13 14:18:36 UTC
jhbuild sets ACLOCAL_PATH for some time now, so no additional effort is
required here.
