GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 648838
favorite contacts always appear even when offline
Last modified: 2013-07-09 08:17:29 UTC
In a freshly upgraded Natty, the favorite contacts always appear in the list, even if they are offline. In Maverick, they were hidden when offline, just like the other contacts. I don't see why they are always displayed, maybe it's useful in some cases, but on our Jabber network, it's not. The expected behavior would be : -to hide them also -or to give the option to make them always visible
This is by design. Loads of people wanted to be able to 'stick' contacts and we decided to use favorites for that as, atm, that's only the only real things favorites contacts are giving you.
Ok, no problem with this decision. But why no option to change it ? I have a long list of coworkers here, and it's useful to have the most contacted ones at the top. But when they are not connected, they still appear in the list. Both under the "favorites" group, and under their own group. Twice for nothing. So that would be nice to have the option to hide them.
Adding a preference is not a free thing, it makes code more complicated and harder to maintain, etc. But I just wrote a fix for bug #648914 fixing the contact appearing in the other groups.
