Description nodiscc 2010-12-28 08:26:43 UTC
When the GDM login screen (with faces) shows up on single-user systems, the user account should be automatically selected, only asking for the password.

Most newb users try to enter directly their password (in the username box), thinking the account is already selected. It would also allow logging in without using mouse. At least, this could be an option. For me it is a very important accessibility feature.

Using GDM 2.20.11 on Debian Squeeze.

Thanks.

It isn't a problem to autoselect a user as long as it is possible to get back to a screen where you can enter the username by hand if you wish. System users (such as the root user) are filtered out of the face browser, but users still want to log into such system accounts at times.

Hello Brian and thanks for your comment. Yes it is absolutely necessary to allow logins with different user names (even not listed, such as root). An option like "select another user" then should be displayed in the Options menu (with gdm config, session selection...).

Would it be possible to implement this mechanism?
