GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 622994
night mode
Last modified: 2011-04-06 02:24:22 UTC
When watching movies at night it is useful to have a mode that limits the dynamic range of the audio. Otherwise in order to hear the dialog you have to turn the volume up so high that gunshots and other peaky/bassy sounds wake the neighbors. Some theater systems offer a night mode that works well for this case. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression
We could apparently use the "audiodynamic" plugin, but it's a bit sucky (I've been told).
Sebastian mentions that this might be better implement in PulseAudio.
