GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 622795
specify audio format when creating mp3 CD
Last modified: 2010-06-27 09:53:18 UTC
The HAL database, or alternatively, an .is_audio_player file can be used to instruct rhythbox to transcode files to a format playable by the target media device. Is there a way to do this with a CD burn as the target? I cannot seem to find a way. If there is not a way, I guess this is an RFE for such a feature.
Rhythmbox doesn't actually take any part in CD burning any more. We now use Brasero. Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 537977 ***
(In reply to comment #1) > Rhythmbox doesn't actually take any part in CD burning any more. We now use > Brasero. But, presumably RB gives a list of files to Brasero, to burn, yes? If so, couldn't RB query the user about supported formats for the CD and transcode any files necessary before handing the files over to Brasero? Or am I missing the level of integration here?
It could, but it's not going to.
(In reply to comment #3) > It could, but it's not going to. Hrm. That's a pity. I can certainly see RB not wanting to be in the actual CD master/burning process -- Brasero does that just fine -- but transcoding seems to be right up RB's alley. On the other hand I could totally understand an argument from the Brasero folks that handling music files (i.e. having to set up an audio pipeline to transcode) is beyond the scope of their project. I guess we will just have to wait and hope that the Brasero folks don't see it that way.
If I wanted to create a CD full of mp3s, I'd want to be able to do it whether I used rhythmbox to select the tracks or not. Given that, implementing this in rhythmbox would duplicate effort needlessly.
