Description Gerald Ellis 2010-03-02 23:03:28 UTC
This is a repeatable fault. I get a Windows dialog box stating that GNUCASH has experienced a problem and needs to shut down, the an error report window for gnucash-bin.exe with attendent crash dump. The dump has been sent to MS without any response. The program raises a diaglog box that states a log file has been created but I can find it. To recover the program I must first remove the lock file (.LCK) then reopen the program.

This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 563598 ***

I know it has been some time since I reported this bug, but I have not yet been able to locate any updates, patches or other means of resolving this issue and I would like to be able to export my account list beofre the end of the year. Could you please advise me of a place to find a resolution to this issue.

Thanks

Comment 3 Gerald Ellis 2010-08-26 20:33:23 UTC
My problem is not quite a duplicate of 563598..
1. Open GnuCash
2. Close all Account tabs leaving only the Accounts tab open
3. Select File > Export > Export Chart of Accounts to QSF
4. Export Chart of account calander window opens
5. gnucash-bin.exe crashes "has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the the inconvenience." (This is the Microsoft problem reporting window)
6. A dialog box declares that gnucash-bin.exe has created errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. However, I have not yet found the eror log.

I realize that this problem is very similar to bug 563598, but it seems to vary just a bit, and I can not find any update, patches, or solutions for it. Except maybe moving to an unstable version like 2.3.14.

I'm afraid QSF support has been removed from the unstable series some time ago. It was very crash-prone and there are no developers interested in maintaining it.

We do still support exporting a chart of accounts into GnuCash' native format. Perhaps that's a useful alternative ?
Comment 5 Gerald Ellis 2010-08-27 04:51:08 UTC
That would be acceptable. Perhaps you could explain the steps to accomplish this. I do not find anything in the help files nor on any of the command line items. Thanks in advance for your time and effort.
