gnome-panel crashes

gnome-panel crashes when something happens to an icon in tray (not on startup - for example new mail for evolution - possibly related to notification).

In some gnome-session it crashes always in some never.

It looks like this is the same bug reported in Debian bug #549959 [1]. [1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=549959

Seems to happen when an icon *leaves* the systray, and it's rather annoying and has been a problem for well over a month now. Any progress on this?
cc'ing Owen, who might have a better chance to find out what's wrong.
Marking as obsolete as I'm using gnome-shell. If anyone have problems with gnome fallback - please reopen it.
