Balsa is unusable in my netbook because the initial configuration wizard does not fit into the screen (1024x600).

Thanks for the report!  Other netbook users have pointed out the same problem, and a fix has been pushed to git master.  Version 2.4.2 will be netbook-friendly.

If you have the capability to build Balsa from source, the patch attached to bug #596028 applies the same fix to any recent source tree.
