GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 570383
Pan continues to download despite destination directory not writable
Last modified: 2011-12-03 09:41:39 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have chosen version 0.13.2 from the list although the info box in Pan shows version 0.132. I tried to save my downloads to a directory, which Pan accepted, however it turned out that the directory had no write permissions on it. Pan downloaded the articles I chose, however it was not able to write into the chosen directory. Despite this problem, and despite there being numerous articles destined for this directory, Pan continued to download and tried every time unsuccessfully to write into the directory. The articles were lost and had to be downloaded again. Steps to reproduce: 1. Select some articles to download 2. Choose a directory to save into that does not have write permission for the user and start saving Actual results: Pan downloads, logs an error, and continues downloading depsite not being able to write into the directory. The cache files created during the download are lost Expected results: Initially, when choosing the directory to save into, Pan should check if it has write permission for that directory. If not, it should show an error message and tell the user to choose a different directory. Additionally, during downloading if this problem occurrs, Pan should stop downloading and pop up an error message saying that it can't write to the chosen directory. The user should be givven the option to correct the problem and then tell Pan to continue, or to choose a different directory to save into. Does this happen every time? Yes, this is 100% reproducible every time. Other information: Genreal Comment: Pan seems to have several such related problems, some of which I have reported. It seems Pan handles error situations poorly, causing large amounts of wasted bandwidth. Pan should better check that everything is running ok, and if not, tell the user.
I can confirm this bug is still present. Very annoying too as it can lead to alot of wasted bandwidth if Pan is left unattended or error not noticed.
