GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 557253
gnome-search-tool does not find a file in a path containing a hidden directory despite option 'Show hidden and backup files'
Last modified: 2009-03-17 02:18:46 UTC
the bug has been described on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+bug/275535 ""~$ locate places.sqlite /home/detlef/.gnome2/epiphany/mozilla/epiphany/places.sqlite /home/detlef/.mozilla/firefox/fya46e9y.default/places.sqlite" ~$ ls -l /home/detlef/.gnome2/epiphany/mozilla/epiphany/places.sqlite -rw-r--r-- 1 detlef detlef 147456 2008-07-19 10:40 /home/detlef/.gnome2\ /epiphany/mozilla/epiphany/places.sqlite ~$ ls -l /home/detlef/.mozilla/firefox/fya46e9y.default/places.sqlite -rw-r--r-- 1 detlef detlef 1212416 2008-09-26 20:01 /home/detlef/.mozilla\ /firefox/fya46e9y.default/places.sqlite 'Search for files' as well as gnome-search-tool' do not find these 2 files if the search starts from / but they do find these 2 files if the search starts from the /home/detlef/.gnome or /home/detlef/.mozilla directory. This is true independent of specifying the option "Show hidden and backup files" or "--hidden"."
If a hidden file is placed in non-hidden directory, also cannot find.

Can you please retry the "/" search but this time add the "Include other filesystems." option? This might be caused because your home directory is on a separate partition or disk. Thank you.
It is not on a separate partition or disk.
Thanks for the quick response, but can you please retry the "/" search as suggested in comment #5?
Yes in finds in hidden files then even if I have only one disk with one partition.
When you get the opportunity, can you cut & paste or attach your /etc/fstab file to this bug report? Thanks.
Created attachment 129967 [details] /etc/fstab Here is it
Patch applied on 3/16/09 to version 2.27.1.
