Description lakshmanan 2008-10-10 03:28:49 UTC
target version--> gedit 2.22.3

 we have tabs in gedit. but when i double click an empty tab area, a new 'unsaved document' should open as a tab i.e. a new tab should open. this feature is not currently there in gedit 2.22.3

For the record, I am not opposed to this, but it has to be decided/discussed at the HIG/gtk level
Comment 4 Christian Dywan 2008-11-26 11:42:22 UTC
Have there actually been discussions? The lack of discoverability and the fact that quite enough people hit the blank space accidentally would seem to rule out anything but an optional preference that is disabled by default.
Comment 5 Isriya Paireepairit 2008-12-10 02:56:58 UTC
I think this is the 'expected' behaviour since the users were educated from tabbed browsers (e.g. Firefox).
Comment 6 Steve Frécinaux 2008-12-10 14:35:31 UTC
It does not exist in gnome (and firefox is *not* part of gnome, look at epiphany instead for a good example of that)
Comment 7 Isriya Paireepairit 2008-12-10 16:00:12 UTC
Steve,

I think "not exist in gnome" is not the good reason/argument to prevent a good feature/usability to gnome.

Comment 9 lakshmanan 2009-08-22 14:03:26 UTC
Like Isriya said, users expects the "new tab" to be created as soon as they see a tab feature in any software today. So, this feature can give more user interface pop as well as convenience.

It would be great if this feature is not made as an optional feature.
