GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 551000
"single click to open items" behavior: item seletion and execution
Last modified: 2008-09-10 16:26:56 UTC
Please describe the problem: When Nautilus is configured for "single click to open items" and Nautilus is configured to display in list mode... An entry should be selected when the user moves the mouse over an item in "column_x" only and pauses for a predetermined amount of time (ie. hover select). Currently an entry is executed (ie, not selected) when user clicks on any column of an entry. Hence entry selection and execution is complicated and difficult when dealing with multiple selections and toggling of selections. This enhancement would allow user to select an entry when the user hovers over an entry at column_x or clicks on an entry at any other column. And user can choose to execute an entry by single clicking on the entry at column_x. Usage procedure for this enhancement: -To select one or multiple entries: a user can press the 'ctl' key and hover over the entry at 'column_x' of the entries in question. or single clicking on the entry at any column other than 'column_x'. -To unselect one or multiple entries: a user can press the 'ctl' key and hover over a selected entry at 'column_x' of the entries to toggle the entries selection state. or user can single click on the entry at any column other than 'column_x'. -The 'shift' key in combination with the hover select is used to select multiple contiguous entries. Other related modifications: -The 'List Columns' tab in the File Management Preferences Dialog box need to be enhanced to accommodate the enhancement. The top most checked item in the 'List Columns' tab would be automatically selected as the item for hover select (ie. column_x specified above). Note also that in 'single click to open items' mode, the underline capability should be applied to column_x. Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
