Description Stephen Griffiths 2008-07-19 08:11:57 UTC
When using the threshold dialog to gather where the darkest/ lightest areas are I try to place a sample point by control click+dragging from the ruler. At this point the threshold dialog (and information) dissapears making it difficult to sample the correct point.

This is useful for colour correction

The problem is that both thresholding and sample points are managed by using a tool, and only one tool can be used at a time. I agree however that this behavior is rather annoying.
Comment 2 Sven Neumann 2008-07-21 17:43:52 UTC
We need a better summary for this bug report though. The current one is rather confusing.
Comment 3 Stephen Griffiths 2008-07-22 09:29:32 UTC
When using the threshold and selecting another tool it should not close, it is in a window of it's own and it seems to vanish with no trace; An open window should require the user to close it whether or not another tool can be used at the same time or not.

***for the work flow part, it does not matter adjustment layers (as planned for the future) will allow a user to be able to use threshold in combination with sample points easily.
Comment 4 Michael Natterer 2008-07-22 13:26:58 UTC
Yes it should close since it is a tool and keeps pending changes to the
image around. Or do you expect to be able to paint on the thresholded
picture using the paintbrush?

What needs to be done here short term is to enable more tools to move
sample points, and I have a pretty simple plan to enable this, maybe
this will make it in 2.6 if it turns out to be as easy as I hope.

Longterm we want to create guides and sample points without switching
away from the current tool of course.

@comment #4
I was thinking more that it should demand attention until it is completed or closed. (even stopping you from making changes to the canvas)

your suggestion (enabling more tools to move sample points), I like more though Michael :)

Changing summary after repeatedly falling for the strange previous one :)
Comment 7 Michael Natterer 2016-04-03 14:44:11 UTC
This is essentially a duplicate of bug 668016 which I just fixed. Sample
points can now be added without aborting the currently active tool.
