Impossible to remove unwanted line Imbalance-NZD (24.56 KB, image/jpeg)

Description Alistair 2007-09-14 04:31:54 UTC
In Win GUI it seems impossible to delete an entry that has been placed in a split, once the cursor has gone to the next item in the split eg I've put 3 items in the split and want to remove one and adjust another this seems impossible to do. I would have thought that right-click the line would give the option of line delete but not so. There is nothing within help to suggest that this is possible either.

Just remove/blank all the fields of the split/line and switch to another split; it will disappear.
Comment 2 Alistair 2007-09-14 19:37:57 UTC
Close because probably cause input fields acting up funny yesterday in GNUcash. Will reopen if issue re-appears.
Comment 3 Josh Sled 2007-09-14 19:57:23 UTC
Reopening; I think it's a valid enhancement request to have a "Delete this split" UI action.
Comment 4 Alistair 2007-09-14 23:38:05 UTC
Yes, now I agree - when you go to enter a new transaction, and it is remembered as a split item, all the fields are filled in which is not a bad thing, only you cannot edit those fields without upsetting the balance. Expected performance with autofill is that it retains your original amount, but allows you to edit or remove individual items within the split.

Well, I have this exact use case about 2-dozen times a week. Using the keyboard to edit the split list by manually blanking the fields isn't too bad, but it'd be faster if there was a keyboard shortcut to do it. As such, I'm re-summarizing this as [the Gtk notion of] "Action", rather than "menu item" per se. Though of course that Action should be mapped to a menu item, too.
Comment 6 Alistair 2007-09-15 02:29:46 UTC
Josh can you clarify what you mean by 'manually blanking the fields' - is it the remove splits option?
Comment 7 Josh Sled 2007-09-15 02:37:55 UTC
I mean selecting the num, memo, transfer/account, credit and debit cells and making sure they contain nothing, and are blank. At that point, "tabbing off" the end of the row (or using the up/down arrow keys or mouse) to change to another split will delete the blank one from the transaction.

What's impossible to remove about it? Tab over to Transfer/account column. The account name should be selected; if not do so. Hit Delete or Backspace. Hit tab four more times, or either up/down. It will go away.
Comment 10 Alistair 2007-09-15 03:06:24 UTC
Josh, it WAS impossible, now it works. I have been finding that some things work sometimes then other times not. There is something in the field conditional coding that is causing entry glitches under certain conditions which I havent been able to nail yet what the conditions are.
Comment 11 Alistair 2007-09-15 03:12:22 UTC
To prove it; look again at the graphic, you will see there is only one item in the row. It was impossible to delete the imbalance item text at that stage.
