GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 466040
PSD files won't load or preview
Last modified: 2008-01-15 13:29:42 UTC
Please describe the problem: When trying to open a PSD file, get GIMP Message: "Open ...PSD failed. Plug-in could not open image". Press "OK" and message goes away, but nothing loaded. Tried several PSD files with same result. Steps to reproduce: 1. File/open, 2. Browse to PSD file location, 3. Double LMB on file. Actual results: See problem description. Expected results: Load PSD file into document. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: A definite work flow stopper. Please fix soon.
This sounds like it may be a duplicate of bug #309141. Additional information is needed before anything can be done regarding this problem. Which operating system are you using to run GIMP? Did you create the PSD file which won't load or did you get it from somewhere? What version of Photoshop created the file? Can you attach a file to this report which you are unable to load? Also, if possible, you could try loading the file in a recent copy of the development version of GIMP. There has been some recent work on the PSD plug-in.
Created attachment 93571 [details] PSD File Zipped Won't load into GIMP.
OS: Win2k SP4 Created in ZBrush3.1 I don't own Photoshop See attached file as an example: pore.zip Couldn't download windows binary of current development version of GIMP to test. Can open and edit in Irfanview 3.98 and Ulead PhotoImpact 8.02. Thanks so much for the quick response and all the hard work gone into GIMP!
The interesting message is "Cannot handle 16 bits per channel PSD files".
Thank you for the report but there is nothing that can be done at this time. The image in question has a depth of 16-bits per channel and the PSD file loader only supports a bit depths of 8 or 1. Improvements to the PSD file loader to let it handle files with greater bit-depth are always welcome. Resolving as a duplicate of bug 74224. Another related bug is #309141. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 74224 ***
