I was able to prevent this bug from re-appearing by removing my Sent Mail files in  .evolution.  
Removing Sent.cmeta       Sent.ev-summary-meta  Sent.ibex.index.data
Sent.ev-summary  Sent.ibex.index

Did not resolve the problem. 186M Sent Mailbox
