It does show "Computer" if you click back in 2.21.5. It does not though, if you click "Up", which is a bug too. Modifying summary.

Perhaps even more concretely stated, the parent of the root file system should be computer:///. This would require a bit of finessing inside of Nautilus (no reason to make it a GIO/GVFS issue).

This statement would make bug 318209 a duplicate (or this a duplicate of that bug, whichever).
Comment 5 Christian Neumair 2008-05-17 12:25:52 UTC
Last time I talked to Alex he was against it.

He designed computer:/// to be a collection of short cuts to all your mounts, but not a real container.

The container-like behavior can be implemented consistently for the root and for remote locations:
  file:///
  sftp://host:80/

I think we have a problem with mounts in your local hierarchy, because they would end up with non-unique parents.

For instance, if you have a CD mounted at
  /media/cdrom0
you will end up with two parents:
  /media
  computer:///

How can we resolve this conflict?

How about an additional configuration-option in Nautilus prefs? Something like a checkbox... "[ ] Change to computer-location instead of a volumes parent-directory when clicking 'Up'"?
