GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 402882
Play/Pause kbd shortcut same as SCIM input activation
Last modified: 2018-05-24 12:18:28 UTC
1. Install SCIM [1] 2. Try to use the input method, which is launched through "Ctrl+Space", the same as the Play/Pause Downstream BZ: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=199929 [1]: No idea whether that's available on other distros, on Fedora: yum install scim scim-pinyin im-chooser
Hmmm... I thought we chose Control-Space because it wasn't being used for anything else. I wonder if there is another decent combo that isn't being used by input methods, global gnome keybindings, emacs or accessibility tools.

why don't you just let users to define their own hot key ? i try to change the play/pause hot key setting in gnome "Keyboard Shortcuts Preferences", but Ctrl+space still pause the music when i want to input search strings .

I'm starting to think we shouldn't have shortcuts for things like play/pause, next, previous. Media player keys work better, as you don't need to focus the app first, and are more readily configurable.
The keyboard shortcuts would still be useful for people not using GNOME, or not having the luxury of additional keys on their keyboard.

Bug 566712 is actually a little different, but provides another reason to change the shortcut (unless it's fixed in xkeyboard, see report).
