GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 351428
Bold, gettext and UTF-8 don't play nice for french translation under Win32
Last modified: 2006-08-16 22:37:49 UTC
I've only included Fred in the Cc: list, as the bugzilla interface doesn't reckonize Darren's email (he probably doesn't have ab account). I'll have to mail him off-bugzilla. I'm checking GtkSpell support under win32, and came across a strange bug. When it is unavailable (no support at compile time), but the preferences say it is activated, the message "<b>Spellchecker not found!</b>\n \nWas this copy of Pan compiled with GtkSpell enabled?" is displayed. English display (for instance with LANG=C in the environment) has no problem with it. But with a French local (LANG=fr), it will just return a blank. I've limited the problem to $subject as far as I can tell. I'd like to confirm whether this is only my problem, a win32 problem or a generic problem. In any case, I'm attaching a diff to at least display a string (without bold). This diff also contains an unrelated change regarding a French grammatical error. I felt lazy about posting a separate diff to the corresponding bugzilla entry, so please excuse me.
Created attachment 70934 [details] [review] Removes bold from Spellcheck error message
Hi Christophe, sorry I use a different email for Bugzilla than I do for mailing lists. I'll give this a shot when I get home tonight.
Created attachment 70953 [details] [review] Fix bold markup and other minor things As reported on the -user ml, this fix the markup closure. I have also added other corrections such as the grammatical error already listed and changing crlf on eol that were introduced by my corrections on Fred's translation.
Which fr.po did you use for fr.po.old ? ;) This one ? http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=70883 Another one ? This one is the latest I proposed, related the "jump to" translation bug (bug 351316)
Ah, the advantages of having a CVS/SVN as basis for comparison... *winks* I was referring to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350609 In any case, this is is a diff, so unless your version modified some line that I modified too, it should work. And if it doesn't, the conflict should be easy to solve.
your diff will be unusable. I had to restart the translation from scratch (copy/pasting the lines in order to make texts match), some lines had changed between 0.107 and 0.108 source code. Sorry :[
Well, the major correction was the <b> tag, which is indeed in itself a good search pattern to find the offending lines. For the crlf problem, I think it's a common excerice in any programming language to find a simple code to perfomr the crlf->cr conversion :) I thought at first it was a software problem, so I opened this bug report. But I now think closing it as a duplicate of 350609, or some such related to french translation, is a valid end for it.
