GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339313
web search extension keeps showing up at the top
Last modified: 2007-11-18 18:16:43 UTC
Hi, the Web Searches extension seems to be disregarding its position in the Preferences window - when I type in anything, it keeps appearing at the top of the list instead of at the bottom. The problem doesn't seem to occur when the text entered matches a program name or a folder. In these cases, the Web Searches entry appears at the bottom of the list, as I specified. Right now I just collapsed the Web Searches entry since I can access them using shortcuts - however, this isn't a very pretty workaround. I'd appreciate if anyone would look into this. Thanks!
Value of the enabled_handlers key in gconf: iravid@fenriz:~$ gconftool-2 -g /apps/deskbar/enabled_handlers [VolumeHandler,FileFolderHandler,GtkBookmarkHandler,ProgramsHandler,EpiphanyBookmarksHandler,WebAddressHandler,EmailAddressHandler,BeagleHandler,HistoryHandler,EpiphanySearchHandler] As you can see, the searches extension is placed at the end.
I cannot reproduce this. What exact version of deskbar are you using? Also - what is your default browser? When you say that "The problem doesn't seem to occur when the text entered matches a program name or a folder." what other types of mathces do you have then?
Hi, thank you for looking into this first off. I am using Ubuntu Dapper, with Deskbar version 2.14.1.1. If you would like to know versions of other components, just let me know. My deskbar is located on the top panel, by the way. I'll give some examples in which the problem occurs and doesn't occur. Text entered: "asdgh" (just random text which shouldn't match anything) Order of results (top to bottom): Web Searches, Actions [Beagle Search]. Text entered: "mines" Order of results: Actions [Launch "Mines", Beagle Search], Web Searches. Text entered: "iravid@inter.net.il" Order of results: Web Search, People [Send Email], Actions [Beagle Search]. Text entered: "downloads" (name of a folder in my homedir) Order of results: Places [Open ~/downloads], Web Searches, Actions [Beagle Search]. In all these cases, Web Searches should have appeared at the bottom of the list. I am not sure why in some cases they appear at the top, and in some cases they don't. If there are any other things you would like me to try out, such as purging my configuration, just let me know. Thanks again for looking into this!
I'm seeing this as well. If I could figure out how to vote for bugs here, I'd vote for this one.
If bug 339967 gets fixed, this bug will probably be fixed as a side-effect of that. I tried to mark this as depending on bug 339967, but I wasn't allowed to do that. DUP / DEP, anybody with more permissions than me?
Anyone came across this problem with Deskbar 2.20 ?
