Description Emmanuel Touzery 2006-03-19 07:16:57 UTC
Please describe the problem:
ekiga 2.0.1 doesn't work well if the ESD sound daemon is running on the computer
(which is the case for at least ubuntu breezy and dapper).
When ESD is running on the computer the sound test in the initial configuration
druid fails, and also calling fails in the application with an error message
which does not mention that ESD might the source of the problem.

I think that given that ESD is still a quite spread technology on linux, ekiga
should either support it (didn't gnomemeeting did? i think it did..) or mention
clearly in the linux error messages that having a running ESD could be the
reason why sound doesn't work.

also see the ubuntu bug:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ekiga/+bug/30578/

all the users in that bug, like me, understood that ESD is the source of that
problem, but beginners won't understand that without a clear error message at least.

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Does this happen every time?
