Description David Prieto 2006-01-26 14:37:24 UTC
Hi, I like the idea of the Epiphany download manager, but I think it would be
quite more useful if its tooltip showed the name of each ongoing download and
the downloaded percentage. That way you would be able to have the DM closed to
the systray and still see how much you have downloaded.

Now it only shows the number of downloads, which is not very useful in my opinion.

This download manager will be obsolete in the near future thanks to the work of Steve Frécinaux (the mathusalem task manager).

Anyway, such a tooltip can be very big and obstrusive for users, a better tooltip is needed however.
Something like (30% of 5 files) would be great.

What do others think?

Yeah that would be fine with me... more useful that it is now anyway.

I've seen some screenshots of Mathusalem, anyway... how soon do you think it will be adopted?
Comment 3 Diego Escalante Urrelo (not reading bugmail) 2006-08-27 18:09:25 UTC
Steve already has a patch for epiphany that integrates the downloads with mathusalem. I guess this will be included in 2.18
Comment 4 Craig Duquette 2007-03-23 04:37:39 UTC
I believe in the meantime the tooltip should say something like

X Downloads, Y% Complete, Est Time Remaining

Displaying "1 Download" isn't useful especially for large files. I'd love to be able to see how much longer I have left without displaying the download manager.
Comment 5 Cameron Matheson 2007-11-27 06:45:22 UTC
Any idea what the status on this one is? I've been thinking a more detailed download view would be better too. Doesn't look like anything has happened w/ mathusalem since 2006? I was thinking about writing a patch, but I want to make sure it would be useful first.
Comment 6 Diego Escalante Urrelo (not reading bugmail) 2007-12-07 07:27:52 UTC
Cameron, feel free to write a patch for this, I think the best option would be to have it say: "P% of N files".

Drop by in #epiphany if you need some tips.
Comment 7 Reinout van Schouwen 2007-12-07 10:38:49 UTC
IIRC a "% complete' was left out from Epiphany on purpose in good KISS fashon, because it's not really relevant / overly detailed information. 'Time left' and a progress bar isn't sufficient?
Comment 8 Cosimo Cecchi 2007-12-07 10:51:54 UTC
Reinout: the download manager window already has percentage over each download's progress bar.
I agree with the reporter: the tooltip, as it is now, is quite useless. Maybe we could have it say something like "X downloads \n YY:YY time remaining" (it would also be very easy...YY:YY is always the longest time remaining among all the downloads) instead of showing a global percentage.
