Description John Richard Moser 2006-01-10 18:05:29 UTC
The user list is currently a pop-up menu. Aside from bug #326258 (can't
multi-select, etc), this has other issues. Mainly, you can't asses the status
of the user list at a glance; you have to interact with the application. This
would be akin to something like Gaim hiding your buddy list until you click
something; then hiding it again real fast when you move away from it. It's not
simply bothersome; it's HIGHLY ANNOYING BEHAVIOR.

Other information:
The only possible argument for the current behavior is that once you hit about
80 or so users they don't all fit on screen; this is a weak argument though.
Comment 1 Laurent Bigonville 2006-01-10 19:30:25 UTC
I don't like this user list either.
Comment 2 Guillaume Desmottes 2006-01-10 19:48:14 UTC
The real question is not to like it or not. The question is "do we really need to have the users list always displayed on the screen?".
Comment 3 Laurent Bigonville 2006-01-15 19:48:24 UTC
Yes I do. I like to know to who I talk.
Comment 4 Alexander van Loon 2006-01-17 17:04:50 UTC
This is an older bug report covering this subject as well, which I digged up with the search: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=323488

I agree with Moser and Bigonville, I'd like to know at any moment who is in the channel and who I'm talking to.
Comment 5 Olivier Le Thanh Duong 2006-01-17 17:36:40 UTC
Personnaly, I don't really care, I only check the userlist time to time, so I would rather have it hidden by default so it take less space.

Marking it as a dup of the other bug.
