Description Michael Gagnon 2005-11-30 04:56:07 UTC
Would be nice to be able to import from removable media (like CD). Thumbnails
would be created and available always from hard drive, while the full image
would remain on the removable media. (New edits to the image would need to be
on hard drive as well). When you want to see the full size image (or want to do
an edit), f-spot would ask you to insert the CD or CF card, etc. (Maybe when
images are imported, it would ask you what you want to name that specific piece
of removable media -- like Photo CD 1).

Also, if there was some way to export to cd, verify data on cd, then delete copy
on hard drive while keeping thumbnails (as in above), that would be really great. ;)

This is for people that want to save HD space. Thanks :)

This is also for people using digital cameras in mass usb storage mode! (99% of
the cameras I could get my hands on).

The pictures are usually stored in
themediadevice/somedir/someotherdir

F-spot should be smart enough to figure out which is the good dir. We must
absolutely not make the user go through two levels each time, if that's possible.

editing photos on readonly media should generally result in an edit on rw media
(should be specifiable)

I’m looking for a portable solution, which would allow me:

1) to keep pictures on a shared media, like a flash drive (this is the subject of this bug report);
2) to synchronize metadata among f-spot instances on different stations somehow.

I can’t easily refuse the f-spot, because I’ve already appreciated its usability, and collected a big album with comments. May anyone suggest me another solution?

One more note to the above message. Currently, I perform synchronization and import of external picture collection manually:

1. rsync to copy pictures and photos.db to/from portable media
2. sqlite3 photos.db: update photos set uri=replace(uri, '/old/path/', '/new/path/'); on target station.

This works meanwhile.

F-Spot has moved to https://github.com/f-spot/f-spot/issues

If this Bugzilla ticket is still valid in a recent version of F-Spot, please feel free to post this topic as a ticket in the F-Spot project on GitHub.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping as we are planning to shut down GNOME Bugzilla in favor of GNOME Gitlab.
