GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 321223
Request for sizing/scaling capability in image editting
Last modified: 2018-07-12 00:04:47 UTC
Add a scaling/sizing dialogue box to the 'editting' section of F-Spot. This should be like The Gimp, i.e. allow the user to set both the dpi and the width/height (in units of their choice, i.e. pixels/inches/cm), and of course have a lock/unlock boolean for keeping x & y scaling locked together. I'm sure there is an intent to limit the number of editting functions in F-spot to the 'basic minimum', and rightly so. Image scaling/resizing is however one of those basic common functions - in my opinion at least.
The basic plan is to provide scaling anywhere we export, this isn't happening quite right at the moment though.
Does 'export' include printing? The key need for sizing photos, as well as for exporting to say flickr, is to get a desired print of the photo. I would still be keen for sizing to be available in general editting though, along with things like brightness etc.
From http://primates.ximian.com/~glesage/wiki/doku.php?id=f-spot:print_dialog Full Page (1 picture) 4×6, multi-up (2 pictures) 3.5×5 multi-up (4 pictures) Other standard sizes Contact sheet (48 - 6×8, 117 - 9×13, 216 - 12×18) Fit (1,2,4,8) to page CD cover (like contact sheet, but with a sampling of the images & group title) This is more of a guideline of where F-Spot is heading, but good printing capabilities will be there. I have also raised bug #326420 for a Book Layout option.

This Bug is now more than two years old and I really do not like to start up the GIMP every time I need to resize a picture before I e.g. put it into a blog, so, is there any progress on this feature?
F-Spot has moved to https://github.com/f-spot/f-spot/issues If this Bugzilla ticket is still valid in a recent version of F-Spot, please feel free to post this topic as a ticket in the F-Spot project on GitHub. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping as we are planning to shut down GNOME Bugzilla in favor of GNOME Gitlab.
